Global P-Series Glycol Ether Market is segmented, By Product Type Chlorohydrin Method, Epoxy Ethane Hydrate, Other. Propylene glycol methyl ether is the fastest evaporating solvent in the ether family, with very high water solubility and active solvency, PM (Propylene methyl) glycol ether is widely used in coating, printing ink and cleaning applications. It offers better viscosity reduction than heavier molecular weight glycol ethers and is predominantly operative in epoxy and high solids acrylic systems. Coupling agent in solvent blends for water-based gravure, flexographic and silk screen printing inks. Propylene glycol N-Propyl ether (PNP) it is an exceptional balance between hydrophilic and hydrophobic character and used is in cleaning products water borne latex coating and coupling cosolvent in water-reducible aerosol paint to solubilize organic soils makes it useful in a extensive diversity of formulation systems.

Testing of a wide diversity of propylene glycol ethers has shown that propylene glycol-based ethers are less toxic than some ethers of the ethylene series. The common toxicities connected with the lower molecular weight homologues of the ethylene series, such as opposing effects on generative organs, the emerging embryo and fetus, blood (hemolytic effects), or thymus, are not seen with the commercial-grade propylene glycol ethers. In the ethylene series, metabolism of the terminal hydroxyl group produces an alkoxy acetic acid. There productive and developing toxicities of the inferior molecular weight homologues in the ethylene series are due precisely to the formation of methoxy acetic and ethoxy acetic acids.
Longer chain length homologues in the ethylene series are not associated with the reproductive toxicity but can cause hemolysis in penetrating species, also through formation of an alkoxy aceticacid. The principal alpha isomer of all the propylene glycol ethers (thermodynamically favored during manufacture of PGEs) is a secondary alcohol incapable of forming an alkoxy propionic acid. This alpha isomer comprises greater than 95% of the isomeric mixture in the commercial product in the P-series glycol ethers market.
